Went to see The Woman in Black with my mom last Friday…

I love Daniel. He’s a very impressionable actor. I also enjoyed Cieran Hinds and Janet McTeers’s performances as Mr. and Mrs. Daily. The plot of the movie is great as well, considering that it is from a book and a remake of the original movie. The best part is that it actually has a plot rather than a string of murders and whatnot like most horror flicks today. Even more so, the involvement of the supernatural only enhanced the effect of the film. The horror scenes are not excessive and thankfully do not overshadow the actors or the story line.

~SPOILER ALERT~

What I didn’t like thought, was the ending of the movie. More accurately, the ending of the story. While I do understand that it is in fact a horror movie, I cannot get over the fact that Arthur could not save his son in the end, despite his efforts. I would’ve accepted his death if the child hadn’t die along with him. While Mr. Kipps’ character is very depressed and pessimistic, any parent would have been at least a little bit upset at the fact that his barely two-year-old son is dead. By Arthur not being able to save his son, it defeats the entire purpose of his struggle against the spirit of the Woman in Black. Anyways, for me, the movie ended a bit too happily and uncharacteristically so, considering the circumstance.

Unfortunately, a group of what I presume were middle-schoolers or underclassmen in high school had snuck in and the entire time they were talking and moving around and texting. Since they were sitting below, their phone screens blinded me more than once. They shouldn’t have even been there considering their age. At one point I really wanted to report them, but once the movie started I didn’t think it was worth it missing any of it despite the constant annoyance. The idiots of my generation. I’m truly ashamed for being the same species as those morons.

My mom said that she would’ve felt regretful had she paid for the tickets. Not because she didn’t like the movie, well, she actually didn’t like the movie. But not for the movie itself, but the genre. She’s not the biggest fan of horror. Therefore, she was quite happy that I had paid for everything. In spite of it all, I enjoyed the movie immensely and would watch it again, if given the chance.
